Solar Powered Water Distiller

IMG_8496.jpg

In Fall 2017 I worked with an interdisciplinary team of engineers to design and prototype a solar powered water distiller for use following natural disasters that disrupt city infrastructure.

The prototype is capable of distilling approximately 2 liters of water over the course of a day in sunlight without any electronics or disposable parts, making it suitable for long term storage between uses.

The device utilizes a Fresnel lens to focus the sunlight into an insulated chamber and distills water via evaporation and transfer into the clean water reservoir.

I was responsible for the 3D modeling and fabrication of the main frame of the prototype. All modeling was done in Autodesk Inventor and the frame was constructed using 80/20.
